Mark your calendar. The Friends once again have planned three book sales for the upcoming year.

General Meeting
The next general meeting of the Friends will be held at the Milpitas Community Library on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at 7:00 PM. The Friends will be ratifying the Bylaws at this meeting. Check our website for the full text of the Bylaws. All members of the Friends are invited to attend.

2006 Book Sales
The September Book Sale brought in over $6,100 for the Milpitas Community Library. Inside book sales brought in an additional $7,000 this year. A grand total of $25,000 was raised from the Friends. This money is made available entirely through the efforts of volunteers.
A special thank you to Save Mart and Milpitas High School for supporting us. If you wish to join this group of volunteers, call the library at 262-1171 and leave your name and phone number so a member of FOML can contact you. You may also sign up to volunteer at a specific book sale by contacting the Adult Reference Desk and placing your name on the list to help.

Money that you spend at book sales goes back into the library. Programs the Friends has helped fund this year:
- Adult Programming (Author programs, book discussion groups, speakers) ~$6,500
- Young Adult Programming (Movie programs, Summer Reading Club, poetry slams) ~$2,400
- Children's Programming (Summer Reading Club, guest performers at story times, craft programs) ~$17,000
- Gift Giving Silicon Valley Reads ~$500
- Library (Lights for study room, outdoor book drop, shelving for DVDs, repair projects, book mending, out-of-print books, etc.) ~$5,300

Being a Friend offers several benefits:
- Entry into members-only night at the book sale: Get the first look at what books are available on Friday night, before the public gets to them on Saturday and Sunday.
- Newsletter: The semi-annual newsletter will help keep you up-to-date on library events and inform you of important library issues as well as discuss the many ways in which the Friends benefits Milpitas Library.
